At TPR, foster carers are at the heart of our rescue work. We do not operate kennels; instead, we rely on a network of caring foster homes across Scotland. Fostering provides dogs with safety, love, and structure while they wait for adoption. This policy sets out our commitments to foster carers and what we expect in return.
We will:
Cover the cost of all pre-approved veterinary care, including vaccinations, flea/worm treatment, microchipping, and neutering (where appropriate).
Provide equipment, and supplies where needed (or reimburse agreed costs).
Offer ongoing support and advice from our fostering team.
Handle all adoption enquiries, applications, and decisions.
Collect feedback from you to help us match dogs with suitable adopters.
As a foster carer, we ask that you:
Provide a safe, secure, and loving environment for the foster dog.
Ensure the dog is supervised and not left for unreasonable periods of time.
Keep the dog on a lead in public areas and never allow them to roam freely.
Introduce the dog carefully to other household pets and children, following our guidance.
Monitor the dog’s health and behaviour and update us regularly with photos, videos, and notes.
Bring the dog to any veterinary appointments as arranged with TPR.
Help prepare the dog for adoption through basic training, socialisation, and routine.
Never rehome or transfer the dog without TPR’s consent.
Photos, videos, and honest write-ups from foster carers are vital in helping us find forever homes. By fostering with TPR, you agree to provide regular updates that we may share on our website, social media, and adoption listings.
The length of a foster placement may vary depending on the dog. Some dogs may be adopted quickly; others may need longer. We ask that foster carers remain flexible and communicate openly with us if circumstances change.
If you decide you would like to adopt your foster dog, please let us know as soon as possible. Foster carers are usually given first consideration, provided the home is suitable for the dog’s long-term needs.
Foster dogs should not be placed in unsafe situations.
Children should always be supervised around foster dogs.
Any concerns about behaviour, health, or safety must be reported to TPR immediately.
If a foster placement cannot continue, we ask for as much notice as possible so we can arrange alternative care. Emergency situations will always be prioritised.
✨ Fostering saves lives. At TPR, we couldn’t do what we do without our foster carers, and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way.
